DRIVES & PATIOS

    Block Paving Cleaning in Cambridge

Block paving driveways and patios across Cambridge collect weeds, moss and general staining faster than solid paving because of the number of joints between blocks, each one a potential gap for growth to take hold. ELawnCare jet washes block paving from £4 per m² with an £80 minimum visit, re-sanding every joint afterwards as standard.

Re-sanding is the part that actually stops the problem coming straight back. A clean without it lasts weeks rather than years, because open joints invite weed seed and let blocks shift underfoot.

Why block paving needs more upkeep than solid paving

Every joint between blocks is a place for weed seed, moss spores and dirt to collect, which is why block paving typically needs cleaning more often than a single continuous slab surface. Kiln-dried sand in the joints, refreshed regularly, is what keeps blocks locked in place and denies weeds the gap they need to establish.

Where weeds have already taken hold in the joints, hand weeding at £28 an hour clears them roots-out before the wash, since simply washing over established weeds leaves the roots to regrow within weeks.

What is included in the visit

Pressure washing matched to the block material, full clearance of moss and staining, and re-sanding of every joint once the surface has dried. For badly overgrown driveways, hand weeding is added before the wash to deal with established growth properly rather than just blasting the surface.

From £4 per m² with an £80 minimum visit, including re-sanding of the joints. A typical block paved driveway of 30 to 40m² therefore costs £120 to £160.

Every joint between blocks is a gap where weed seed and moss spores can collect and germinate. Re-sanding the joints after cleaning closes this gap and significantly slows how quickly weeds return, compared to a wash without re-sanding.

Yes where needed, at £28 an hour, roots-out and by hand rather than with chemicals. This clears established growth properly before the wash rather than just blasting over the top and leaving the roots to regrow.

Once a year is typical in Cambridge, more often on shaded, north-facing driveways that stay damp longer. Re-sanded joints and good drainage both extend the interval between cleans.
