Fencing cost breakdown
Labour: £100 per panel including post installation. This covers digging the post hole, setting in concrete, and fitting the panel. Panel supply: £25 to £50 each for standard closeboard, more for premium styles. Concrete posts are more expensive upfront but last longer. Old fence removal is quoted separately if needed.
Concrete gravel boards (about £10 each) are recommended to prevent the bottom of wooden panels from rotting. They add a small cost but extend the fence life significantly.
Planning permission for fences
In the UK, fences up to 2m (6ft 6in) in a back garden do not usually need planning permission. Front boundary fences are limited to 1m (3ft 3in) without permission.
