Scarification removes thatch and moss between grass plants. It is different from aeration, which works into the soil, and from overseeding, which introduces new grass seed. We can quote these jobs together when the assessment supports them, but a healthy lawn does not automatically need every treatment.
Removing moss does not resolve every reason it grows. Shade, wear and drainage may continue to affect the lawn after scarification. Tell us how the lawn is used and where moss returns so the recommendation reflects the problem rather than only its appearance.
Early autumn can suit scarification while the grass has time to recover. Spring can also be considered. We postpone if the ground is frozen, saturated or very dry, or the lawn is too stressed for the proposed work.
A newly scarified lawn can look thinner and rougher immediately afterwards. Where removal exposes gaps, we assess whether overseeding is worthwhile. New seed and preparation are separate from a standalone scarification quote; recovery depends on growing conditions and ongoing care.
Watering and protecting new growth are important. We provide aftercare advice for the treatment, including watering, keeping people and pets off recovering areas and when to resume mowing. Establishment depends on conditions and ongoing care; results and germination dates are not guaranteed.
The starting renovation package includes targeted scarification where needed, not full-lawn scarification. Choose a standalone scarification quote for surface treatment across the agreed lawn, or ask for combined renovation if thin grass and damaged patches also need work.

A typical small-lawn renovation includes aeration and overseeding across the whole lawn, scarification where needed and topsoil applied to bare or damaged areas. Scarification treats accumulated surface thatch and moss; aeration treats compaction in the soil. They are different jobs and may be combined when both are needed. Photos, lawn condition and access help us recommend the appropriate treatment rather than booking both automatically.
Removing moss and thatch can expose gaps and leave a rougher surface initially. We discuss that before booking and assess whether new seed is needed. Overseeding is separately priced on standalone work. Recovery depends on conditions, watering where needed and protection from wear.
October can be suitable if grass is still able to recover and ground conditions allow. We assess the lawn and weather before booking. Frozen, saturated, very dry or stressed lawns should wait; the month alone is not enough to decide.
