Grass Cutting and Lawn Mowing in Cambridge

The base rate covers mowing the lawn and raking up the cuttings. Two things are priced separately so you only pay for what you want: edging and strimming along paths, fences and beds is £12 added to a mow, or £28 an hour if booked on its own with a one hour minimum; taking the cuttings off site is another £12 per visit, and is only worth paying for when your green bin has no room.

£20 per 100m² is the rate, the minimum visit is £40, and a recurring round on a monthly plan takes 10% off the eligible maintenance work. A typical small Cambridge back garden of around 100m² lands on or near the minimum.

Not part of a cut: hedge work, which is priced per metre; bed weeding, which is charged hourly; and anything requiring chemical treatment, which is not offered at all.

An overgrown first cut carries a 50% surcharge for that visit only, after which you are on the standard rate. It is not a penalty: long wet grass has to be taken down in stages, it clogs and blunts equipment, and it produces far more material to clear than a maintained lawn.

Never taking more than a third of the blade in one pass is the reason for the staged approach. Scalping a neglected lawn in a single cut is what leaves it yellow and thin for weeks afterwards. If the grass is knee-high or there are brambles and saplings through it, a clearance is the right starting point instead.

Fortnightly suits most gardens through the growing season and keeps the cost down. Weekly is worth it in May and June, when a fortnight's gap means removing more than a third of the blade at once.

Through winter, growth mostly stops from November to February. Visits usually drop to monthly or pause, with a tidy-up before spring rather than cutting grass that is not growing. Sustained rain moves a visit to the next dry slot, because cutting a soaked lawn marks the surface and gives a poor finish.
