    What hedge trimming costs

£4 per metre for hedges up to 2 metres tall, £8 per metre above 2 metres. The height band reflects the extra time, access equipment and clearing involved rather than an arbitrary surcharge.

Cuttings disposal is £12 per visit. The £40 minimum visit applies.

    When to cut a hedge

Most garden hedges want two cuts a year, typically late spring and late summer. Fast growers like privet and leylandii may want three.

Nesting birds are the constraint that matters. It is an offence in the UK to damage an active nest, so hedges are checked before cutting and left alone if a nest is in use, usually March to August.

    COMMON QUESTIONS

    Frequently asked questions

£4 per metre for hedges up to 2 metres and £8 per metre for anything taller. Cuttings disposal is £12 per visit. The £40 minimum visit applies, so a very short run may come in at the minimum.

Twice a year suits most garden hedges, usually late spring and late summer. Fast growers such as privet and leylandii often want a third cut. Anything left longer than a year takes considerably more work to bring back into shape.

Only after checking. Damaging an active bird nest is an offence in the UK, and nesting season runs roughly March to August. If there is a nest in use the hedge is left and the work rebooked, no argument.

Yes, at £12 per visit. Otherwise cuttings are tidied and left bagged or in your green bin. Hedge cuttings bulk up fast, so on a long run the disposal charge is usually worth paying.
