Most new builds need at minimum: turfing or seeding the lawn area, boundary fencing, and possibly a patio. Turfing at £9 per m² labour gives instant results. Fencing at £100 per panel establishes boundaries. Patio tiling at £70 per m² creates a usable outdoor space.
Autumn is the best time to turf a new build garden. The soil is warm, rain keeps the turf moist, and roots establish before summer. Spring is the second best window.
New turf needs careful management in the first season. Mowing starts when the grass reaches 50mm, using a high setting. Watering is essential in dry spells for the first three months. After that, normal fortnightly maintenance keeps the garden in shape. Monthly plans at 10% off are the most cost-effective approach.
