Spring is the second-best window for lawn renewal in Cambridgeshire after autumn. Soil warms quickly in March and April, and reliable moisture gives new seed the start it needs before the dry Cambridge summer arrives.

A typical small-lawn renovation includes aeration and overseeding across the whole lawn, scarification where needed and topsoil applied to bare or damaged areas. The first mow and spring preparation
The first cut of the year goes high, removing only the top third of growth to wake the lawn up gently. Cutting too short on the first pass shocks grass that has been dormant and opens the surface to moss and weeds.
Mowing from £20 per 100m² with a £40 minimum. Strimming added at £12 to tidy edges along paths and beds. Overgrown first cuts after a winter of neglect carry a 50% surcharge for that visit only, then you are on the standard rate.
Moss treatment and overseeding
Moss is treated through scarification rather than chemicals. Raking out the thatch and dead moss opens the lawn surface, and overseeding fills the gaps with fresh grass before weeds claim them.

Aeration and spring feed
Aeration helps relieve compaction and lets water and air reach the root zone. It can be booked on its own or as part of renovation, with the method agreed after assessment.
ELawnCare does not sell feed products, but a spring lawn feed applied after aeration and overseeding gives new seed the best possible start. A slow-release granular feed from any garden centre does the job.

Autumn is the safer window in Cambridgeshire because moisture is more reliable. Spring works well in March to April, but the seed must establish before the dry summer. If you miss the spring window, wait for September rather than treating in June.
